Things I Will Never Go Back To

One funny part of getting older is realizing you’re allowed to change your mind about things. Things you once tolerated suddenly feel unnecessary. Things you thought were normal start to feel a little ridiculous. And little by little, you develop a quiet list of things you simply won’t be doing anymore.

Here are a few things I’ve officially retired.

Sleeping in Makeup

There was definitely a phase of life where I could come home late, fall straight into bed, and deal with my makeup the next morning. Now? Absolutely not. I don’t care how tired I am or what time it is. My face is getting washed before bed. My brain will not allow sleep otherwise. Once you get used to waking up with a clean face, there’s really no going back.

Going to Bed With a Messy Kitchen (Most Nights)

I’m not claiming perfection here. There are definitely nights when I look at the kitchen and decide tomorrow’s version of me can deal with it. But most nights, I do a quick reset before bed. Ten minutes of clearing counters, loading the dishwasher, and putting things back where they belong makes the next morning feel so much calmer. Waking up to a clean kitchen just starts the day off better.

Uncomfortable Jeans

If I have to hold my breath to button them, they’re not staying in my closet. If sitting down requires a full wardrobe adjustment, they’re gone. There are plenty of jeans that look good and allow you to breathe like a normal person. That’s the standard now.

A Purse That Weighs 20 Pounds

There was a time when my purse held everything: receipts, random pens, snacks, toys, and things I didn’t even remember putting in there. Now I carry the essentials. Phone. Wallet. Keys. Lip balm. My shoulder is happier, and somehow, I still manage to have everything I actually need.

Aging “Gracefully”

This might be slightly controversial, but I’m just being honest. The whole “aging gracefully” thing? Not really my plan. I fully support anyone who wants to embrace that path, but personally I’ll be doing Botox for as long as it exists and continues to work.

Call it maintenance. Call it prevention. Call it whatever you want. All I know is I’m not voluntarily giving up modern technology.

If you are local to San Antonio, I absolutely LOVE my girl Tiffany! She is fantastic!

Getting older doesn’t mean everything has to get more serious. It mostly means figuring out what works for you and quietly letting go of the things that don’t. It can really be slightly comical when you think about your non-negotiables at this stage of life.

I’m curious…

What’s something you will absolutely never go back to?

Something small, something funny, or something you didn’t realize was non-negotiable until adulthood.

I’d love to hear it.
